Thug who stabbed mum and her 3 young children more than 50 times is jailed for life

A man who stabbed a mother and her three children more than 50 times during a frenzied attack has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 32 years.

Liban Malhamoub, 45, stabbed the three children, all of whom were aged under 12, a total of 34 times with multiple knives during the “sustained and repeated assault” at an address in Palmers Green, Enfield, on July 6, 2019.

Having managed to escape the property, the incident continued into the residential street where neighbours tried to intervene, but Malhamoub was only stopped when police arrived.

Malhamoub stabbed the mother 24 times in the dining room of the property, including four wounds to the face, before then turning his attack to the three children who tried to hide within the house.

One of the three suffered 21 stab wounds, including seven to the neck and three to the chest, the Old Bailey was told on Friday (April 9).

He attacked with such ferocity that the knife he armed himself with when arriving at the property had bent out of shape.

However, he re-armed himself with at least three further kitchen knives, all of which were later found to be covered in blood.

All four victims have required surgery and continual hospital appointments since the attack. The children have missed significant school time due to having to attend hospital regularly, the court was told.

The Old Bailey heard how the mother, in her 30s, had “played dead” in an attempt to desist the attack, but Malhamoub proceeded to stamp on her.

He originally pleaded not guilty to four counts of attempted murder citing that he had no memory of the incident. However, he changed his plea on day two of a trial at the same court on January 11.

Passing sentence, Recorder of London Judge Mark Lucraft recalled that the three children could “hear the screams” as their mother was stabbed repeatedly.

“You stabbed the mother many times. She hid and kicked out to defend herself. The children could hear the screams. She played dead in the hope you would stop, but you stamped on her.

“This was the most horrific attack. You used the large knife you had with you and three other large knives from the kitchen. One can only imagine the horror they went through. This was a planned attack on vulnerable victims.”

The court heard how the incident took place while Malhamoub had been on bail awaiting sentence for an offence of Section 18 wounding with intent in relation to an unprovoked glassing of another man at a pub in North London in 2017.

Malhamoub, of Livingstone Road, East Barnet, was sentenced to life in jail with a minimum term of 32 years.
