Carrie Symonds: Who is Carrie Symonds?

CARRIE SYMONDS and Boris Johnson have announced the birth of their first child together this morning. Who is Carrie Symonds? How old is Boris Johnson’s fiancee?

Carrie Symonds gave birth to a baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning. She and the baby are said to be “doing well”. A spokesperson for the couple said: “The PM and Ms Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.”

Mr Johnson and Ms Symonds announced in March they were expecting a baby and that they had become engaged at the end of last year.

It is believed the couple met while she worked on Mr Johnsons campaign to be reelected as Mayor of London.

Who is Carrie Symonds? How old is she?

Ms Symonds is the daughter of one of the founders of the Independent newspaper, Matthew Symonds and newspaper lawyer Josephine McAffee.

She comes from a line of journalists, with her grandfather being John Beavan, Baron Ardwick, a former political journalist and Labour member of the EU parliament.

The 32-year-old grew up in south-west London and attended the prestigious Godolphin and Latymer private school in Hammersmith.

She went on to study art history and theatre studies at Warwick University.
Prior to her relationship with Mr Johnson, she was in a long term relationship with the deputy political editor of the Mail on Sunday, Harry Cole.

Her first job in politics, she says, was working for Zac Goldsmith, the then MP for Richmond Park and North Kingston.

She said she was “not sure I’d have worked for the Tories if it hadn’t been for him”.

She joined the Conservative Party as a press officer in 2010, going on to work on her partner’s successful campaign to be re-elected as Mayor of London.

My Symonds took several jobs within the Conservatives before landing the role of Head of Communications, but left in 2018 to work in public relations for Oceana – a project that protects sea life.

Ms Symonds is a passionate conservationist, and she has been credited with making the Prime Minister oppose fox hunting and making changes to badger culling legislation.

His relationship with Symonds made headlines during Mr Johnsons Conservative leadership campaign when police were called to the home they shared in Camberwell, south London.

Neighbors told the Guardian newspaper that they had heard Symonds telling Johnson to “Get off me!” and “Get out of my flat!”.

A few days later, a picture of the couple with a happy-looking Symonds appeared in the media in an attempt to settle public speculation, although it was accused of being staged and Mr Johnson refused to say when it had been taken.

How old is Carrie Symonds?

Born in March 1988, Ms Symonds is 32 years old.

She is the youngest partner to accompany a prime minister into Downing Street in 173 years.

Her fiancee, Mr Johnson is aged 55, born on June 19, 1964, making him 23 years her senior.

How long have they been together?

Mr Johnson and Ms Symonds were first linked by the media in early 2019, when the Prime Minister and his second wife, childhood friend Marina Wheeler, had announced they were divorcing in 2018 after 25 years.

Mr Johnson was previously married to Allegra Mostyn-Owen for six years from 1987.

Only two of Britains 54 prime ministers since 1721 have been divorced, and only Augustus Henry FitzRoy, prime minister from 1768 to 1770, remarried in office.

Mr Johnson and Ms Symonds went public with their engagement in February this year, announcing at the same time that they were expecting a child.

The new baby, whose name is yet to be announced, joins his mum and dad and rescue dog Dilyn in Downing Street.

The newborn also joins a small club of children born to serving prime ministers.

Tony and Cherie Blair had Leo in May 2000, while David and Samantha Cameron had daughter Florence in 2010.
